Yanan Tian, a student in the Joint Doctoral Program between the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) and Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) model aimed at drug discovery and optimization.

This research, published in the journal Nature Communications, was conducted under the guidance of professors Joel P. Arrais, from the Department of Computer Engineering at FCTUC, and Huanxiang Liu, from MPU, as part of the MPU-UC Dual Doctoral Degree program, which aims to promote scientific cooperation and advanced training between Portugal and Macao.

“This work proposes the MMCLKin model, a structure based on advanced AI methods, designed to predict with high accuracy and interpretability the activity and selectivity of kinase inhibitors, significantly accelerating the process of discovering and optimizing new targeted drugs,” explains Yanan Tian.
