Mozambique is among the top five African partners of China's Hunan province, which is establishing itself as the new strategic center for trade between China and the African continent.
Africa is currently Hunan's third largest trading partner, with Mozambique among the main destinations, alongside South Africa, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and Morocco, according to data released by the Standard Bank Group.
“The province is implementing an ambitious but very practical agenda, with infrastructure that connects African businesses with real Chinese demand,” said Philip Myburgh, director of the trade group at Standard Bank.
With the implementation of the tariff exemption policy for products from 53 African countries, including Mozambique, imports to Hunan increased by 27.1% in early 2025, reaching USD 511 million.
