China has authorized 183 new Brazilian coffee companies to export the product to the country. The announcement was made recently by the Chinese Embassy in Brazil. According to the publication, the measure is valid for five years and came into effect on July 30.

During the week, a post already showed figures for the product in the Chinese market. Net coffee imports in the country grew by 13,080 tons between 2020 and 2024. And the growth potential is measured by the fact that per capita consumption is 16 cups/year, well below the global average of 240. “Coffee is gaining ground in the daily lives of the Chinese,” celebrates the publication.

According to researchers at the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at the Luiz de Queiroz School of Agriculture (Esalq) at the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazilian producers are being forced to redirect part of their production to more markets in the current international trade context. This further highlights the importance of the Chinese market today.
