Recently, the Brazilian Association of Corn and Sorghum Producers (Abramilho), represented by its president Paulo Bertolini, took part in an official mission to Guilin, China. The main objective of the mission was to pave the way for expanding Brazilian sorghum exports to the Chinese market, one of the world’s largest importers of the grain.
According to Bertolini, Brazil is seeking to reach 10 million tons of sorghum exports by 2030, but faces structural challenges. “Brazil needs to invest in infrastructure, such as storage and port upgrades, in order to expand our presence in the global sorghum market, especially now that we have the opportunity to export to China, which opened its market in May 2025,” he said.
The Chinese delegation expressed interest in visiting Brazil in August to see firsthand the sorghum production fields and the supporting infrastructure. The mission could consolidate Brazil as a reliable supplier of sorghum to the Asian country, while optimizing the structure of China’s sorghum import sources.
