In a virtual press conference with foreign correspondents, Brazil's Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, highlighted the growing investments of Chinese companies in the Brazilian energy sector and expressed his intention to visit China soon to learn about small nuclear reactor technology, for its potential to decarbonize energy generation in the Amazon.

"I want to visit China soon to discuss small nuclear reactors. I want the technology of the company that already produces small nuclear reactors, even to make a decision on how we are going to continue decarbonizing the Amazon, if it is economically viable", he explained.

Silveira also highlighted the key role of the Chinese Engie in Brazilian energy diversification, including investments in hydroelectric, solar, wind and gas.

The minister thanked Chinese investors for their confidence in Brazil and highlighted the growth of the energy sector in general and, in particular, biofuels.
