Born in 1984, Portuguese David Patrício was appointed coach of the main team of Nantong, a club from eastern China, He had previously held the positions of assistant coach, reserve coach, and technical director when he arrived in 2019.
After reaching third place in the Chinese League I, the second tier, in December, Nantong was promoted to the Chinese Super League. David Patrício wants to keep the newly promoted Nantong Zhiyun in the top flight, with a “mission spirit” to develop Chinese football.
“I do not believe that these 1.3 billion people do not have talent. What is missing is to create infrastructure”, the Portuguese said. “Only in the Lisbon area there are dozens of clubs. Here the city of Nantong has seven million people and has only two clubs. It is manifestly little”, he underlined.
