GWM is about to take an important step into the Brazilian market with the opening of its factory in Iracemápolis, São Paulo. This venture is scheduled to begin in June 2025.

The Madeiran startup FootAR, which is part of the Portuguese consortium eGames Lab, won the “Best Application” award at VRAR World Expo 2025, an event held in Shanghai, China. This is the most prestigious Asian event dedicated to Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, which took place on May 15th and 16th.

On May 13, a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation between the countries in artificial intelligence (AI) was signed by the Brazil Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC) as the Brazilian representative and the National Development and Reform Commission of China on China's side.

The Chinese multinational company, Hua Guang Welding, has chosen Parkurbis - Parque de Ciências e Tecnologia da Covilhã to set up its first industrial unit in Portugal, starting in 2026, with an initial value of 15 million euros. The investing company is one of the world's leading manufacturers of industrial welds for sectors such as refrigeration, the automotive industry and air conditioning.

Banco do Brasil (BB) and the China Development Bank (CDB) have signed a US$ 1 billion commitment agreement. The agreement was signed in Beijing, during President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's trip to China.

Chinese fast food chain Mixue has announced an investment of R$3.2 billion to start operating in Brazil, with the promise of creating up to 25,000 jobs by the end of the decade. The decision was announced during President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's visit to China, which resulted in a R$27 billion Chinese investment package in various sectors of the Brazilian economy.

The governments of Mozambique and China are working to improve trade and promote investment between the two nations. To this end, a meeting was held on May 14 in Maputo between Mozambique's Secretary of State for Trade, António do Rosário Grispos, and Vice-Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China, Wang Lingjun.

China will implement a visa-free travel policy on a trial basis with five Latin American countries. The announcement was first made by Chinese President Xi Jinping in his opening speech at the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum.

Brazil and China will start sharing information on pests, diseases and toxic residues found in food of animal and plant origin exported or imported between the countries. The measure, agreed through a memorandum of understanding signed on May 13 in Beijing, aims to reduce health risks and avoid surprises in bilateral trade.

On May 12, Brazil's Ministry of Communications signed a Memorandum of Understanding with State Post Bureau of China, with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the two countries, increasing the quality of services provided and making the postal sector more efficient and accessible to the population.

Another Chinese brand is arriving on the Portuguese market: in late April, the Auto-Industrial Group signed a partnership with ChangAn Automobile to import and distribute its models.

Brazil signed protocols with China on May 13 to allow the export of dried distillers grains (DDGs), as well as agreements to export more poultry products.
