China's sugar imports in October increased 39% to 750,000 tons, bringing the year-to-date total to 3.9 million tons, according to Chinese customs data.

Brazil, the world's largest sugar producer and exporter, has benefited from the growth in Chinese purchases. According to Brazilian government data, China was the main destination for Brazilian sugar exports in September, with 359,000 tons — many of these shipments were likely recorded as Chinese imports in October.

In October, when Brazil exported a record 4.2 million tons to all destinations, exports to China totaled 619,350 tons, with the Asian country also being the main buyer of Brazilian sugar last month, according to Brazilian government data. Brazil's sugar exports to China grew 58% in October compared to the same period last year.
