The Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) held the Gastronomic Showcase of Portuguese-speaking Countries of the 18th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries today (26 June) at noon at FADO Restaurant of Hotel Royal Macau. The event was attended by representatives of Chinese-, Portuguese- and English-language media organisations in Macao, who had the opportunity to interact with international chefs and experience first-hand the uniqueness of the integration of the culinary cultures of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
This gastronomic promotion activity brought together renowned chefs from three places. Renowned Portuguese chef Luís Américo presented the authentic essence of Portuguese cuisine. Talented Timorese chef Carlota Da C. Freitas revealed the unique touch of Austronesian culture through the creative use of spices and ingredients. Famous Macanese chef Marina de Senna Fernandes showcased, through Macanese cuisine, Macao’s unique fusion cuisine, the valuable result of the coexistence of Chinese and Portuguese cultures in Macao. The three chefs joined hands to create a refined gastronomic experience spanning Europe and Asia, fully reflecting the central spirit of this edition of the Cultural Week: “Diversity and Inclusion, Exchange and Mutual Learning among Civilisations”. To enable Macao residents and visitors to enjoy this cross-border gastronomic celebration, the special tasting menu will be available to the public from 27 to 29 June at FADO Restaurant, on the M floor of Hotel Royal Macau, with special lunch and dinner menus. Reservations are welcome.
The official opening ceremony of the 18th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries will be held at 6:00 p.m. on 30 June. The programme of the event is broad and diverse, including music and dance performances from China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, a handicraft exhibition of Portuguese-speaking Countries, and other activities. These activities demonstrate the deep historical and people-to-people ties between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, and highlight Macao’s important role as a platform for exchanges between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
