The exhibition “Flavours of Tradition: History of Food in Ancient China” was inaugurated recently at the National Historical Museum in Rio de Janeiro. The ceremony was attended by Acting Minister of Culture Márcio Tavares, as well as representatives of the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram), the National Museum of China, the Consulate-General of China in Rio de Janeiro and partner institutions.

The exhibition is part of the programme of the Brazil-China Cultural Year 2026 and marks another stage in cultural exchange between the two countries. Featuring original works and artefacts from the collection of the National Museum of China, the exhibition offers an immersive journey through the history of Chinese food, based on utensils, rituals, culinary techniques, table customs and knowledge passed down over millennia.

During the ceremony, the Consul-General of China in Rio de Janeiro, Tian Min, said that the exhibition had arrived in Brazil in a context of strengthened cultural exchanges between the two countries. According to her, the exhibition is among the main activities of the China-Brazil Cultural Year, alongside initiatives in the areas of culture, art, sport and education.
