Brazil’s National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro) recently conducted a technical visit to state-owned manufacturer Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) in Guangzhou to discuss the regulation of electric mobility, batteries and energy efficiency. The initiative was carried out by teams from the Directorate for Conformity Assessment (Dconf) and the Directorate of Legal Metrology (Dimel), continuing the co-operation initiated between the institutions in September 2025.

During the visit, the team toured GAC’s industrial facilities and observed battery production and recycling processes, as well as technological solutions aimed at the electric vehicle market.

According to Hercules Souza, Head of the Regulation and Regulatory Quality Division of the Directorate for Conformity Assessment (Direq/Dconf), strategic topics were discussed relating to the regulation of batteries, charging systems for electric vehicles and testing methodologies used in the energy efficiency labelling of these vehicles.

He added that the information shared should support studies being carried out by Inmetro in areas such as batteries, charging infrastructure and energy efficiency, in a sector undergoing technological transformation.
