The Macao Personal Data Protection Bureau (DSPDP) is preparing to sign co-operation agreements with its counterpart entities in Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe, an initiative that reinforces Macao's international presence in the field of digital governance and data protection within the Portuguese-speaking space.
The memoranda of understanding aim to establish institutional co-operation mechanisms, promote the sharing of regulatory experiences and strengthen the technical capacity of authorities responsible for privacy oversight and the processing of personal data.
The initiative is part of the expansion of Macao's participation in the Lusophone Personal Data Protection Network (RLPD), a platform that brings together regulatory entities from Portuguese-speaking countries and territories. Beyond technical exchange, the agreements reflect Macao's strategy of establishing itself as a platform connecting China and Portuguese-speaking countries in a sector increasingly relevant to digital economies.
In April 2026, the DSPDP formalised its membership as a full member of the Lusophone Personal Data Protection Network.
