On 11 March, the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) hosted, at the Macau Tower, the Spring Festival Reception for media organisations, during which it exchanged views with heads and representatives of Portuguese- language, English-language, and Chinese-language media organisations in Macao. Ji Xianzheng, Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat, attended the event and delivered a speech.
In his speech, Secretary-General Ji Xianzheng reviewed the work carried out in 2025. He noted that the Secretariat had been committed to implementing the tasks set out in the Action Plan for Economic and Trade Cooperation (2024–2027), signed at the 6th Ministerial Conference, with all work progressing steadily. Over the past year, the Secretariat received more than 100 delegations at its headquarters in Macao, which has already become an essential stop for economic and trade delegations from the Forum’s participating parties.
In the area of promoting economic and trade co-operation, the Secretariat took part in various major economic and trade activities in Macao and Mainland China. It also paid official visits to Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau, and promoted a number of practical co-operation projects between provinces and municipalities in Mainland China and Portuguese-speaking countries. In the field of cultural and people-to-people exchanges, the Secretariat organised five colloquia on various themes and held the 17th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, which extended to Mainland China for the first time, with activities taking place in Macao, Beijing and Zhongshan and receiving a warm response.
On behalf of the Secretariat, the Secretary-General took the opportunity to thank media organisations in Macao, praising their valuable contribution to deepening public understanding of Forum Macao and the Service Platform for Commercial Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, as well as their contribution to promoting co-operation and friendship between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Secretary-General noted that the Permanent Secretariat would maintain the working momentum of 2025 and continue advancing the implementation of the Action Plan for Economic and Trade Cooperation. He indicated that the Secretariat plans, in the current year, to organise five colloquia, continue exchanges and mutual visits with Mainland China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and hold the Cultural Week in Macao and Mainland China, with a view to deepening comprehensive and mutually beneficial co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. The Secretary-General concluded by expressing his hope for continued support and attention from the media in Macao.
