The acronym FAW, which loosely translates to “first automotive works,” refers to the automaker that began vehicle production in China in 1953. Now, as part of a global expansion process, the group is on its way to Brazil.

Autoesporte, in conjunction with Automotive Business, has learned that FAW is considering launching two of its brands in Brazil in the coming years. One of them is Bestune, which has been speculated for Brazil more than once. The other is Hongqi, the company responsible for making the official vehicles of Chinese presidents for over 60 years.

The difference, of course, is that instead of limousines, hybrid SUVs would arrive. A company spokesperson told the newspaper that “there are plans to start operations when the flex technology is ready.” In other words, with engines more suited to the tastes and needs of Brazilians, in this case ready to run on both ethanol and gasoline.
