The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Timor-Leste recently presented the Presidency of the Republic with a donation of US$65,000 and a range of goods for humanitarian assistance. The ceremony took place at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace in the presence of President José Ramos-Horta. The donation was handed over by Chinese Ambassador to Timor-Leste Wang Wenli.

Henriqueta Maria da Silva, Chief of Staff of the Presidency of the Republic, said that the financial support would be managed by the Presidency and used to fund scholarships for Timorese students. The donated goods, including duvets, footballs and bath towels, will be distributed among vulnerable communities, particularly in the country’s colder regions.

According to the Presidency of the Republic, the initiative continues the annual humanitarian assistance provided by the Chinese Embassy and strengthens co-operation between the two countries. The Chinese diplomatic mission has also supported efforts to upgrade the infrastructure of the Presidential Palace.
