China’s Ambassador to Cabo Verde, Zhang Yang, recently stated that China seeks to deepen agricultural co-operation with Cabo Verde, building on the results achieved through the Cabo Verde - FAO-China South-South Cooperation Programme, which aims to strengthen food and nutrition security in the archipelago.

During the review ceremony of the technical assistance provided under the project supporting agricultural production systems for food and nutrition security, Zhang Yang stated that, since 2023, the team of Chinese experts has been working closely with the Cabo Verdean Government under the coordination of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

According to the diplomat, the project enabled the development of technical assistance activities, the carrying out of tests and demonstrations, the establishment of production bases and the training of professionals. These activities contributed to strengthening the technical capacities of the Cabo Verdean agricultural sector and provided practical experiences that could be applied in other regions of the archipelago.

Zhang Yang expressed China’s willingness to continue working with Cabo Verde and the FAO, with a view to deepening and expanding this co-operation. The diplomat also added that China and Cabo Verde could explore, together with the FAO, the launch of a new phase of the project.
