The University of Madeira (UMa) recently signed a co-operation agreement with Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT), the University of Saint Joseph in Macao and China Southern Airlines. The agreement strengthens an international partnership dedicated to research, technological development and advanced training in intelligent technologies applied to the aviation sector.

The initiative builds on the co-operation developed through a joint research institute for aeronautical simulation technology, inaugurated by the partner institutions in June in Guangzhou.

The partnership aims to strengthen collaboration between universities and industry in areas including artificial intelligence, simulation, human-machine interaction and digital transformation. The agreement provides for the development of joint research projects, the establishment of international teams, the joint submission of applications for competitive funding programmes, advanced training for students and researchers, as well as the promotion of academic and scientific exchanges.

According to UMa, the agreement reinforces the university’s internationalisation strategy and deepens scientific co-operation with Chinese institutions. The initiative could also contribute to the development of innovative solutions in the aviation sector and to strengthening links between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
