Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian recently highlighted the importance of deepening co-operation between China and Brazil. According to the spokesperson, strengthening the bilateral partnership contributes to the development of both countries and the well-being of their respective peoples, while also reinforcing solidarity within the Global South and upholding international fairness and justice.

The remarks were made during a press conference following a telephone conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. During the conversation, the two Heads of State discussed the alignment of national development strategies and various issues on the international agenda. Xi Jinping noted that, as important members of the Global South, China and Brazil should strengthen bilateral and multilateral co-ordination, contribute to the reform of the global governance system and promote higher-quality co-operation within BRICS.

The two Presidents expressed interest in expanding co-operation in areas including artificial intelligence, satellites, critical mineral processing and fertiliser trade. Lula da Silva also noted that bilateral trade had reached a new record high and advocated increasing Chinese investment in Brazil, with a view to diversifying economic co-operation beyond the export of raw materials.
