Construction of the Dundo Multi-purpose Sports Pavilion in Lunda Norte Province, Angola, resumed last week. The project is being undertaken by China Railway 20th Bureau Group Corporation (CR20). According to Filomena Elizabete Chitula Miza Aires, Governor of Lunda Norte Province, the Angolan President approved a special budget allocation for the project.
According to the CR20 project manager, the pavilion will be the largest and most modern indoor multi-purpose sports venue in Lunda Norte. The main building will cover an area of 8,795 square metres. The project includes the main competition arena and a supporting outdoor plaza and will be implemented in two phases.
Once completed, the pavilion will be able to host sporting competitions, cultural performances and other public events. Rui Luís Falcão Pinto de Andrade, Minister of Youth and Sports, said that the infrastructure would provide young athletes with a platform to compete at national level and pursue opportunities internationally. He also acknowledged CR20’s experience in Angola’s infrastructure sector and called for compliance with the project schedule, technical standards and quality requirements.
