Porto Itapoá, in the Brazilian State of Santa Catarina, has decided to open a representative office in Shanghai with the aim of expanding its business with China. The initiative has resulted in a partnership with the Santa Catarina State Government Investment Promotion Agency (InvestSC).

The collaboration involves identifying and supporting Chinese companies interested in investing in the State, as well as assisting Santa Catarina companies that are expanding their business in China and using the port’s services for exports. Porto Itapoá will also appoint a representative in Shanghai to carry out this work.

In the first half of 2026, China was the terminal’s leading market, accounting for 49.4% of imports and 17.9% of exports. In June, Porto Itapoá handled around 74,000 containers, the highest monthly volume recorded in its 15 years of operation.

According to Ricardo Arten, CEO of Porto Itapoá, the growth resulted from the expansion of operational capacity, continued investment in infrastructure and increased productivity.
