Located in Bahia, in northern Brazil, Juazeiro is one of the Brazilian cities participating in the China–Brazil Smart Cities Seminar, recently held in Beijing, China. The municipality formed part of the Brazilian delegation, on an international mission aimed at exchanging experience, presenting innovative urban solutions, and strengthening co-operation between Brazil and China in strategic areas for sustainable development.

The seminar is an official bilateral co-operation programme that brings together public administration officials, experts and authorities from both countries to discuss models for smarter, more efficient and sustainable cities. The programme includes discussions on technological innovation applied to public administration, artificial intelligence, urban mobility, security, infrastructure, energy transition, the green economy, and the development of digital public services.

Representing Juazeiro, Superintendent Iuric Pires highlighted that the municipality’s participation opened up new opportunities for international co-operation. He explained that the seminar allows participants to gain a closer understanding of the solutions that have been transforming Chinese cities into global benchmarks for innovation and efficiency, contributing to a deeper technical understanding of the smart city concept. He added that the initiative creates an important channel for dialogue on future partnerships, particularly in the areas of foreign trade and photovoltaic energy systems, two strategic sectors for Juazeiro’s economy.
