Portuguese Professor receives International Science and Technology Co-operation Award of the People’s Republic of China

Recently, Professor Carlos Guedes Soares, a member of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering and foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was awarded with the International Science and Technology Co-operation Award by the People’s Republic of China. It is the highest honour established by the Chinese government to recognise foreign experts who have made important contributions to international scientific and technological co-operation.

 

Carlos Guedes Soares is a professor at the University of Lisbon and a specialist in the fields of ship and ocean engineering. He has maintained a long-standing co-operative partnership with Wuhan University of Technology. Through the Innovation Centre for Green and Intelligent Shipboard Equipment and Safety, established within the university’s Frontier Interdisciplinary Research Institute, he conducts fundamental theoretical research and develops industrial applications in areas such as ship weight reduction, maritime safety and marine emergency technologies.

 

The award represents the highest recognition of his long-standing contributions to promoting scientific co-operation between Portugal and China and supporting China’s scientific and technological development.
