Carbon markets, sustainable finance and ecological transformation were among the topics discussed by the delegation of Brazil’s Ministry of Finance in Shanghai during the official mission to China led by Finance Minister Dario Durigan, with the participation of representatives of the governments and business sectors of the two countries.

The Extraordinary Secretary for the Carbon Market, Cristina Reis, presented Brazil’s progress in implementing the Brazilian Emissions Trading System (SBCE) and highlighted the role of the regulated carbon market in the country’s economic agenda. According to her, the policy aims to support emissions reduction, stimulate innovation, increase the competitiveness of the Brazilian economy and attract investment to sustainable activities.

Cristina Reis also stated that co-operation between Brazil and China in carbon markets is not limited to emissions reduction, but also covers areas such as development, industry, investment, innovation and the future. She stressed that the low-carbon economy can generate concrete benefits for the population and strengthen the role of emerging economies in building a new sustainable economic order.
