The Brazilian state of Ceará recently took part in the 2nd Chongqing International Friendship Cities Cooperation Conference, in China, as part of the 2026 China-Brazil Year of Culture programme. The meeting brought together representatives from 29 countries to discuss co-operation initiatives in the areas of culture, technology, education and sustainable development.
Representing the Secretary of Culture of Ceará, Secretary Gecíola Fonseca presented projects linked to the creative economy, tourism and the audiovisual sector, highlighting the growing international projection of productions from the State of Ceará at major festivals.
The participation also served to publicise cultural policies developed in Ceará, including the "Living Treasures of Culture" programme, as well as to promote the region's tourism potential and investment opportunities.
One of the highlights of Ceará's presence was the participation of the José de Alencar Theatre in the International Exhibition of Friendship Cities of Chongqing, held at the Chinese city's Art Museum. This historic cultural facility was featured in the exhibition as one of the symbols of Brazil's cultural heritage presented to the international public.
