The Ministry of Culture of Brazil and Petrobras have inaugurated the exhibition "The Brazil of Portinari" in China. Promoted by the Portinari Project and made possible through the Rouanet Law, the exhibition brings together around 50 original works by Candido Portinari, one of the greatest Brazilian artists, at the National Museum of China in Beijing, from 9 June to 10 October 2026.

This is the first major exhibition dedicated to Portinari in Asia and one of the largest ever held abroad. The initiative is part of the 2026 China-Brazil Year of Culture programme and is taking place in one of the most visited museums in the world. Located in Tiananmen Square, the National Museum of China is expected to receive approximately 4 million visitors during this period.

The exhibition is presented as a landmark in cultural co-operation between the two countries and an opportunity to introduce the Chinese public to the work of one of the greatest names in Brazilian art. The initiative also strengthens Sino-Brazilian cultural ties and highlights the role of culture as a strategic instrument for international rapprochement.
