Brazil's Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, André de Paula, recently took part in a bilateral meeting in Beijing with the Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), Sun Meijun. The meeting was part of the Brazilian mission's agenda and focused on strengthening agricultural and livestock trade, sanitary co-operation and exchange between the two countries, with emphasis on progress in negotiations regarding pork offal.

During the meeting, the importance of agri-food trade in bilateral relations was underlined. In 2025, China imported US$51.4 billion worth of agricultural products from Brazil, a figure representing approximately half of the total trade between the two countries. The minister also noted that, despite strong domestic production, the Chinese market remains open to importing quality products.

At the technical level, the two sides made progress in negotiations concerning sanitary and quarantine requirements for the export of pork meat and by-products from Brazil to China. One of the key developments was the inclusion of pork offal in the revised protocol, meaning these products have now been added to the list of authorised items.

The technical terms of the agreement were validated by both delegations, with formalisation expected at a later stage. After this step, Brazilian authorities will guide companies on the necessary procedures, while the Chinese side will continue with its internal processes to enable exports.
