The Civil Defence of Maceió, capital of the state of Alagoas in northern Brazil, recently took part in a meeting at the Chinese Embassy in Brasília with the aim of exploring opportunities for technical co-operation and innovative solutions for climate monitoring and natural disaster prevention.
During the meeting, Chinese experiences in the development of smart cities were presented, with particular emphasis on the case of Shenzhen, which has one of the most advanced urban sensor networks in the world.
Among the technologies discussed were smart cameras with pattern recognition systems, sensors for monitoring traffic and weather conditions, as well as integrated warning systems capable of improving emergency response. These solutions could contribute to more effective risk management and enhanced protection of the population.
The meeting also included a proposal for a technical co-operation agreement focused on adaptation to climate change through the development of specific solutions. In parallel, the possibility of creating training programmes aimed at qualifying local Civil Defence teams and strengthening their operational capacity was discussed.
