Last week, the Secretary for Information Management, Innovation and Evaluation of Educational Policies of Brazil's Ministry of Education, Evânio Araújo, represented the Brazilian Government at the fourth edition of the World Digital Education Conference (WDEC), held in Hangzhou, China.
Under the theme "AI + Education: Transformation, Development and Governance", the conference debated the role of artificial intelligence in modernising education systems, improving teaching quality and building more inclusive and sustainable governance models.
During the official ceremony, Brazil and China signed two memoranda of understanding in the field of education. The Memorandum of Understanding on Co-operation in Education establishes a permanent mechanism for ministerial consultation and dialogue, with regular meetings to monitor bilateral co-operation in the education sector. The agreement also provides for China to grant at least 30 annual scholarships to Brazilian citizens.
The Memorandum of Understanding on Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence Applied to Education aims to promote new pedagogical technologies, modernise the education systems of both countries, strengthen educational inclusion and support talent training. According to the Ministry, Brazil is among the first countries to sign such an agreement with China, demonstrating that both sides are actively deepening co-operation in digital education and technological innovation.
