Trade relations between Brazil and China, global food security and the effects of the geopolitical situation on agribusiness were at the centre of the debates at the 4th Abramilho Congress, held on 13 May in Brasília. The meeting brought together representatives from the Brazilian federal government, diplomats, agricultural sector entities, industry and experts linked to the corn and sorghum supply chains.
Among the main confirmed participants was the Chinese Ambassador to Brazil, Zhu Qingqiao, who took part in two panel discussions. The diplomat's presence occurs against a backdrop of strong commercial interdependence between the two countries in the agricultural and livestock sector. China is currently the main destination for Brazilian agribusiness exports and a strategic market for products such as corn, sorghum and animal proteins.
The Executive Director of the Brazilian Association of Corn and Sorghum Producers (Abramilho), Glauber Silveira, considered that the composition of the panels demonstrates the strategic relevance of the congress for the productive sector. According to him, the simultaneous presence of the Chinese Ambassador, the Minister of Agriculture and representatives from the entire production chain highlights the event's level of coordination and influence on decisions that directly affect Brazilian producers.
