Leung Chun-ying, Chairman of the Board of Hong Kong's GX Foundation and former Chief Executive of Hong Kong, together with the institution's Executive Director, Emily Chan Ying-yang, recently led a delegation on a visit to Timor-Leste. During the trip, they met with the President of Timor-Leste, José Manuel Ramos-Horta, in a meeting also attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Wang Wen-li.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the co-operation projects being developed by the GX Foundation in Timor-Leste, particularly in the areas of dengue prevention and control, the provision of direct potable water, and the training of healthcare professionals, while seeking new ways to deepen collaboration. President Ramos-Horta expressed his gratitude for the support provided by the foundation and acknowledged the institution's contribution to the country's development.

During the visit, Leung Chun-ying and Emily Chan also met with the World Health Organization's representative to Timor-Leste, Arvind Mathur. On that occasion, Leung highlighted the principle that "no mosquitoes, no disease", emphasising that the foundation will continue to support local dengue control efforts through the "Five Essential Mosquito Prevention Measures" – a set of physical vector control solutions. The delegation also met with the Archbishop of Dili, Virgílio do Carmo da Silva, to discuss co-operation with local churches as part of the foundation's direct potable water project, promoting public health and sustainable development.

In the area of talent training, the foundation will organise, later this month, a two-week study visit to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for eight Timorese students. The programme aims to promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, as well as to support the training of future professionals in the medical and social fields, combining technical assistance with human resource development.
