Chinese tourists have no longer needed a visa to enter Brazil since 11 May. The announcement was made recently by Brazilian Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin during the Tourism Fair held in Fortaleza, in the state of Ceara.

The measure aims to strengthen the attraction of Chinese visitors, who exceeded 100,000 last year, according to data from Brazil's Ministry of Tourism. The flow continues to grow: according to official data, between January and March this year, the number of Chinese tourists arriving in Brazil grew by 30 percent compared to the same period in 2025.

The decision comes on a reciprocal basis, after China exempted Brazilian citizens from the visa requirement since June last year. Brazilian President Lula da Silva had already indicated in January his intention to adopt a similar measure for Chinese citizens.

Under the new policy, Chinese citizens are exempt from visas for trips of up to 30 days to Brazil for tourism, business, transit or participation in artistic or sporting activities. The exemption will remain in force until 31 December of this year.
