Solidarity with populations affected by heavy rains in Mozambique, Cape Verde and Portugal will mark the 43rd General Assembly of the Union of Portuguese Language Capital Cities (UCCLA), which will bring together member cities and companies on 13 April in Macao. The meeting is expected to discuss and approve three motions concerning the episodes of intense rainfall recorded in the three countries, all of which have been marked by loss of life and extensive material damage.
On the sidelines of the General Assembly, a business forum on the theme "Infrastructures and Smart Cities" is scheduled for the following day, aimed at strengthening "the institution's economic and commercial dynamism", according to a UCCLA statement.
The event will allow the host city to address topics such as the investment environment in Macao, the advantages of the Sino-Lusophone platform, the joint development of Macao and Hengqin, as well as the business opportunities offered by the Greater Bay Area to Portuguese-speaking countries.
Following the forum, the Macao Government will provide participants with a guided visit to Hengqin, a special economic zone operating under a special co-operation regime with the city of Zhuhai, in order to promote exchanges with services and companies from mainland China.
