Mozambique is benefiting from an estimated annual saving of US$20 million as a result of China’s zero-tariff policy on Mozambican exports. The figures were recently disclosed by China’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Zheng Xuan.
The diplomat highlighted that this measure, which has been in force since December 2024, represents a milestone in bilateral economic relations and provides a significant boost to the country’s economic growth.
“In 2025, the tariff exemption policy allowed Mozambique to save approximately 140 million renminbi. This reflects the principle of shared benefits and mutual gain,” said Zheng. According to her, the initiative is part of a long-term economic policy oriented towards sustainable and shared development between China and African countries.
The zero-tariff policy, which has been gradually implemented over recent years and was consolidated for Mozambique in 2024, removes customs duties on Mozambican exports to the Chinese market. This allows Mozambican products to access the world’s largest consumer market on more competitive terms, helping to boost exports.
