The premises housing the new Honorary Consulate of Cape Verde in Macau were inaugurated last week by the Cape Verdean Ambassador to China, Arlindo do Rosário. The facilities are located near the Ruins of St. Paul’s. After several years without a consular representative in the Macau SAR, Professor Eric King Fung Ho, a member of the Beijing Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, has taken up the role of new Honorary Consul of Cape Verde in Macau.

“My role is to serve as a bridge between Cape Verde, Macau and China. I hope to promote commercial, economic and tourism relations. Many people in China, or even in Macau, do not know Cape Verde. And many Cape Verdeans see excellent business opportunities in the Greater Bay Area. So my role and objective is to act as a bridge to introduce Cape Verde to China, and China to Cape Verde. There have also been an increasing number of Cape Verdean students in Macau. So I hope to promote economic and technological links between the two territories — to bring more students from Cape Verde to Macau and explore the opportunities offered by the Greater Bay Area, and vice versa,” said Eric Ho.

The Cape Verdean Ambassador in Beijing, in turn, called on the new Consul to help attract more Chinese investment to Cape Verde.
