Chinese state-owned oil company CNOOC Limited has donated US$50,000 to Mozambique's National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) to support humanitarian relief efforts in regions affected by flooding, with Sofala province being the hardest hit.
The donation comes at a time when the Mozambican government is intensifying its relief operations. Over the past few weeks, floods have displaced large numbers of people in the south and centre of the country, caused severe damage to infrastructure, and severely affected local livelihoods.
Although CNOOC has not yet formally commenced operations in Mozambique, the company's representative in the country stated at the donation ceremony that the gesture fully reflects the firm's strong commitment to fulfilling its social responsibilities. He emphasised that the company stands ready to work alongside the Mozambican government and its people during this difficult time.
As China's largest offshore oil and gas producer, CNOOC has held five hydrocarbon exploration and production concession contracts in Mozambique since January 2026. The energy sector has long been regarded as a key strategic driver of the country's economic growth.
