Mozambique may host a new industrial unit in the automotive sector, following interest expressed by Chinese company SG Automotive Group Co., Ltd., which is currently in the country to assess investment opportunities.
The Minister of Economy, Basílio Muhate, received a delegation from the Asian manufacturer, which has around 30 years of experience in producing electric buses, trucks, tow vehicles and automotive components.
The ten-day business mission aims to conduct an in-depth study of the Mozambican market. According to released information, among the possibilities under consideration is the installation of a vehicle assembly industry, including electric buses — a project that could generate more than 3,000 jobs. The Moamba Industrial Park has been identified as a potential location, whose development could strengthen the industrial fabric and boost the local economy.
On the occasion, the Minister of Economy emphasised that the company's interest aligns with the Government's strategy to promote industrialisation and attract foreign investment, with direct impact on job creation and economic growth.
