The Portuguese Society of Chinese Medicine (SPMC) will hold the 1st International Congress on Traditional Chinese Medicine from 17 to 19 April at the Instituto Piaget in Almada.António Moreira, President of SPMC, considers that "this congress, due to the quality of its programme and guest speakers, together with the involvement of official health entities from Portugal and China, represents an important milestone in establishing excellence in Traditional Chinese Medicine within the framework of national healthcare."

The Congress slogan, "Neither new, nor old, Timeless," aims to underscore the need for modernisation of Chinese Medicine without losing its ancestral roots. The event's main objectives are to consolidate the field with oversight institutions, particularly the Ministries of Health and Education, and to promote knowledge sharing at the highest level.

The Honour Committee includes the Minister of Health and the Chinese Embassy, while the Scientific Committee is composed mainly of PhD holders and practitioners of Chinese Medicine. This composition aims to strengthen the standing of Chinese Medicine in Portugal, both institutionally and in the consolidation of clinical interventions.
