China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) recently delivered a humanitarian donation worth approximately US$50,000 to the National Institute for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction (INGD).
The handover ceremony took place at the INGD headquarters in Maputo, according to the Xinhua news agency. The donation is intended to support reconstruction efforts and improve the living conditions of families in communities affected by natural disasters, as well as to alleviate humanitarian pressure and strengthen local resilience to natural disasters.
China's ambassador to Mozambique, Zheng Xuan, who attended the event, highlighted the “long-standing traditional friendship” between the two countries, reaffirming China's commitment to supporting Mozambique in responding to humanitarian challenges and advancing post-disaster recovery phases.
INGD President Luísa Meque received the donation, noting that the funds will help alleviate pressure on the institution's resources. She also assured that the institute will ensure the proper management and effective use of the funds in order to provide direct assistance to the most needy populations.
