On 27 January 2026, Brasilia hosted the Brazil-China Seminar: Research, Development, Innovation and Agricultural Mechanisation, an event organised by Brazil's Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) in partnership with the Chinese Embassy in Brazil. The meeting focused on discussing technological solutions aimed at productivity, environmental sustainability and strengthening family farming, a sector that accounts for a significant portion of food production in the country.
The seminar also served as a platform for the presentation and discussion of the recently launched Joint Laboratory on Mechanisation and Artificial Intelligence for Family Farming, based at the National Institute of the Semi-Arid (INSA), a research body linked to the MCTI. The bilateral partnership between Brazil and China aims to develop agricultural mechanisation systems adapted to the needs of small producers, integrating intelligent automation, precision tools and digital solutions to increase production efficiency in various regions of Brazil.
For the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luciana Santos, the initiative represents a strategic milestone in high-level scientific co-operation between the two countries.
