On 26 January, Angola's Ministry of Health and Chinese technology company Huawei signed an agreement to modernise the National Health System, which provides for the training of 38,000 professionals and the provision of 500,000 remote consultations.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health (Minsa), the agreement was signed in Shenzhen on the last day of Health Minister Sílvia Lutucuta's visit to China and establishes ‘a framework for co-operation aimed at modernising the National Health System through the progressive digitisation of hospitals and health units throughout Angola’.
According to Minsa, the memorandum provides for support for the training of around 38,000 health professionals, the implementation of telemedicine, tele-nursing, digital imaging and artificial intelligence applied to health solutions, the provision of more than 500,000 remote medical consultations over a period of four years, as well as the development of national talent in the field of information and communication technologies.
