Brazil is preparing its first energy auction for grid-scale batteries, scheduled for April, with Huawei leading Chinese interest.

Between 2007 and 2024, Chinese electrical projects accounted for 45% of China's investments in Brazil, totaling US$35 billion, according to the Brazil-China Business Council. Chinese manufacturers offer advantages, experts point out, due to their leadership in battery production and experience in integrating storage systems. Even so, local competitors act as integrators and suppliers.

In addition to Huawei, other Chinese companies with a presence in Brazil have already expressed interest in participating in the bidding process, such as State Power Investment, China Energy Engineering, and China Three Gorges. Huawei plans to act as an equipment supplier and is seeking partnerships to win the auction. The company indicates that it is not enough to import batteries from China; the system must be integrated locally.

It is reported that Brazil's Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, has been seeking to attract Chinese companies and was in China for meetings with Huawei, CATL, and others.
