Minister asks Chinese automaker in Brazil to invest in charging infrastructure

Brazil's Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, met on January 23 in Shanghai with executives from SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, China's largest automaker and one of the global leaders in the automotive sector.


During the meeting, the Minister of Mines and Energy reinforced the Brazilian government's support for the installation of the SAIC factory in Pouso Alegre (MG), a project estimated at around R$ 300 million, and for possible new investments. The unit is considered strategic for consolidating Brazil as a regional hub for the low-carbon automotive industry.


The meeting is part of the Brazilian government's agenda to attract strategic investments, strengthen reindustrialization, and expand technological cooperation between Brazil and China.


Alexandre Silveira also highlighted the need to expand investments in infrastructure for electric vehicles in Brazil, such as charging stations, charging points, and energy storage systems. According to the minister, Chinese industries are invited to participate in these investments to accelerate the advancement of electric mobility in the country in a structured and sustainable manner.
