The B-Lounge space at the University of Minho, on the Azurém campus in Guimarães, is hosting an exhibition dedicated to Lu Xun (1881-1936), the father of modern Chinese literature. Entitled “Seeking new voices beyond new borders – Lu Xun and European science and culture”, it features three dozen panels with documents, images and historical materials.
Free to the public, the initiative is organised by the Confucius Institute at UMinho (ICUM), in partnership with the Lu Xun Museum in Beijing and the Documentation and Library Services at UMinho.
The collection focuses on Lu Xun's deep connection with Western scientific, literary and artistic thought and how he contributed to the intellectual and cultural renewal of his country, in a journey marked by exchange, reflection and creation.
Four experts from the Lu Xun Museum in Beijing also visited UMinho a few days ago, giving a lecture on Lu Xun to students from the Department of Asian Studies, describing the artefacts and manuscripts on display and holding a woodcut workshop alluding to the Chinese New Year.
The exhibition will move to the B-Lounge on the Gualtar campus in Braga in June.
