Recently, the 2025 “Partners' Night” of the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) and the Shanghai TV Festival (STVF) was held. The event also marked the launch of the city's first Portuguese Film Festival.
The Portuguese Film Festival brings together eight precious Portuguese films. Among them is the remarkable film “The Memory of the Smell of Things.” The lead actor, José Martins, won the Golden Goblet Award for Best Actor at the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) for his performance in the film. This time, he returns to “Film City Shanghai” with filmmaker Leandro Valente and participates in a post-screening Q&A session.
José Martins once called Shanghai “a paradise for cinema.” In his view, this festival is not only a celebration of Portuguese cinema, but also a milestone in the growing cinematic exchange between China and Portugal, as well as an important step in deepening cultural ties between the two peoples.
According to Liu Yina, director of the Film Department of the Shanghai Film Administration, this exhibition is not only the first national exhibition of Portuguese cinema in Shanghai, but also the highlight of the city's “Weekly Film Exhibition” series at the end of the year.
