The Chinese amateur soccer tournament Village Super League hopes to expand international exchanges through matches with Brazilian players and aims to organize a “Village World Cup” in 2028, said Wang Yonggui, deputy director of the Guizhou Province Village Super League office.
“Teams from Brazil always attract a lot of attention from local fans,” Wang said, adding that Rongjiang — located in the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture in Guizhou Province and home to the Village Super League — has already invited about 30 teams and more than 1,200 players from various countries and regions, including Brazil, to participate in friendly matches and exchange activities.
From May to July 2023, the Guizhou Village Super League tournament became a national phenomenon thanks to its vibrant atmosphere and energetic cultural performances. In the same year, Rongjiang launched the “Village Super League” strategy, with the goal of “attracting people from all over the world to play together.”
