Recently, the national criminal investigation service SERNIC of Mozambique has acquired a forensic DNA laboratory, which will enable it to solve some crimes and clarify others, says SERNIC Director General Nelson Rego.

The forensic DNA laboratory was inaugurated in the Mozambican capital and has the capacity to process 200 samples per day. The opening of this new facility was the result of bilateral cooperation between the Mozambican government and China, which financed this new equipment with an investment estimated at around US$700,000.

At the inauguration ceremony, Pascoal Ronda, Mozambique's Minister of the Interior, highlighted the role of former Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Wang Hejun for his “dedication and personal commitment to the implementation of the project.” For his part, Wang Hejun said that the Beijing government wants to “cooperate with African countries based on the principles of sincerity, effectiveness, friendship, and good faith.”
