The Cape Verdean government is negotiating with China to finance the third phase of the Safe City video surveillance system, which should reach three new locations in the country. The information was provided by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Cape Verde, Paulo Rocha, during an official visit to the Macau Special Administrative Region. “This is an important project in the field of public security, which has made an important contribution to the capacity of our police forces to act,” said Paulo Rocha.
The expansion is part of an agreement signed in January this year, in which China pledged to support Cape Verde with 26.3 million euros. In addition to supplying equipment, the protocol includes training Cape Verdean technicians and maintaining command centers.
During the visit, the minister explained that the trip to China will also include contacts with companies that supply surveillance equipment. “I'm going to take the opportunity to visit Chinese manufacturers of equipment used in public security and discuss technical and logistical issues related to this project,” he said.
