The long-awaited construction of the Salvador-Itaparica Bridge has taken a decisive step towards completion. Recently, the Government of Bahia and the concessionaire responsible for the Salvador Bridge - Itaparica Island Road System signed the contract that enables the next stage of the project, officially marking the start of the countdown to construction, which is expected to begin within 12 months.
The contract was signed with a consortium composed of two Chinese engineering giants: China Railway 20th Bureau Group Corporation (CRCC20) and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC). The soil survey work was completed in April 2025. More than 300 people participated in the operation, which hired more than 20 companies from Bahia and invested R$ 200 million. It was also the first survey in Brazil to reach a depth of 200 meters in the seabed, collecting intact material.
During a virtual meeting, Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues shared the news with the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, and with Zhu Qingqiao, China's ambassador to Brazil. The governor highlighted the importance of the project not only as an engineering feat, but also as a driver of growth for tourism, culture, and the economy of Bahia.
