The world's largest automotive ship, the BYD Shenzhen, began its first international voyage to Brazil on April 27. The vessel departed from the Port of Taicang in Jiangsu province, China, carrying more than 7,000 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The move is part of BYD's expansion strategy in the Brazilian market, currently its biggest destination outside Asia.
The BYD Shenzhen is the Chinese automaker's fourth roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ship and stands out for its size. It is 219.9 meters long, 37.7 meters wide and has 12 decks dedicated exclusively to transporting vehicles. With the capacity to load up to 9,200 cars simultaneously, the ship is equivalent in area to around 20 soccer pitches.
In addition to its size, the BYD Shenzhen vessel can reach a maximum speed of 18.5 knots, approximately 34.3 km/h. The official delivery of the ship took place on April 22, 2025, just a few days before its departure for Brazil.
