Portugal’s Polytechnic University of Viana do Castelo (UNIPVC) is taking part in a mission to China to promote Portuguese higher education and explore opportunities for academic and scientific co-operation. The visit began on 28 October and runs until 9 November, with stops in Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai.
The university is represented by Ana Teresa Oliveira, Pro-Rector for Pedagogical Innovation and Curricular Flexibility. The programme included a meeting at Tsinghua University on 2 November, with another scheduled at Shanghai Jiao Tong University on 6 November.
The initiative comes as bilateral academic ties deepen. Portugal and China have agreed to resume negotiations in 2027 on a new agreement for the mutual recognition of degrees and diplomas and to prepare a Joint Action Plan for Higher Education for 2027–2030. Priorities include academic mobility, research, advanced training and co-operation supported by artificial intelligence.
According to UNIPVC, this is its first participation in a mission of this scale to China. The university aims to turn these contacts into concrete opportunities for mobility, research and academic development.
